Common Cataract Symptoms

Vision that’s cloudy, blurry, foggy or filmy

Sensitivity to bright sunlight, lamps or headlights

Glare (seeing a halo around lights), especially when you drive at night

Need for brighter light while reading a book

Difficulty seeing at night & having Double vision

Seeing bright colors as faded or yellow instead

Have Cataract removed safely & regain your perfect eyesight

The WHO/NPCB (National Programme for Control of Blindness) survey has shown that there is a backlog of over 22 million blind eyes (12 million blind people) in India, and 80.1% of these are blind due to cataract. Removing a cataract requires surgery. Cataract surgery is recommended when a clouded lens will inhibit your ability to perform certain activities. During the procedure, your cloudy natural lens is removed and replaced with an artificial lens that is clear. Shiv Jyoti Eye Hospital is known for diagnosing and treating the disease with the utmost precision.

Surgery called vitrectomy is the best way to treat a macular hole. Your ophthalmologist removes the vitreous that is pulling on your macula. Then he or she puts a gas bubble inside the eye. This bubble helps flatten the macular hole and hold it in place while your eye heals. The gas bubble slowly goes away on its own.

Types of IOLs
  • Monofocal IOLs: With the help of these IOLs you can clearly see distant objects but will require glasses for near (eg. reading, writing)
  • Multifocal IOLs: Such IOLs help you to see distance and near objects clearly. Glasses are not required for such work. You may need minor glasses for working on laptops/computer.
  • Extended Depth Of Focus IOLs: You will be able to see distance, near and intermediate (computer work) clearly.
  • ASTIGMATISM: It is an imperfection in the curvature of your eye that causes blurred distance and near vision. This can be treated with glasses or with TORIC type of IOL implantation during cataract surgery.
Which is the best IOL for you?

Your eye doctor will be able to guide you for the best IOL for you depending upon your day to day activites, whether your eye needs TORIC or NON-TORIC IOLs as well as the condition of your eye. Whether the IOL is monofocal, multifocal or extended depth they are available as toric or non-toric.Hence, always consult your ophthalmologist before finalizing your IOL.

Lifestyle and priorities

In case you have a very active lifestyle that involves a lot of precise focusing outdoors, like in sports, you may compromise your near vision but not your distance vision. If you travel a lot, you might prefer to not be dependent on glasses at all, preceding a bit of precision for both near and distance vision. On the other hand, if you enjoy sewing or embroidery, you will want perfect near vision.

Pre-existing diseases

In case of certain eye diseases like advanced glaucoma, corneal disorders or age-related macular degeneration, you may not be a good candidate for specific lenses, like the multifocal lens. Your eye doctor will perform a comprehensive eye exam and discuss its results and implications with you, to help you choose the best possible lens for your eye.
